Storm’s Abilities
This page gives some insight on what Storm can do and the extent of "weather manipulation." Take note, however, that this list is incomplete. To see
images of the meteorological phenomena discussed, rollover the links with your
mouse and the image should show up in a box.

The Facts - Lightning bolts travel at speeds of up to 60,000 miles per
second. A flash of lightning is brighter than 10,000,000 100-watt light
bulbs. Temperatures in the path of a lightning bolt can reach as high as
50,000 degrees Fahrenheit. |

The Facts - Quoted from the American Geophysical Union, 'The most
immediate dangers posed by abrupt climate change range are devastating
droughts and floods which could seriously affect both water supply and
agriculture across vast stretches of the planet.' The most immediate dangers
posed by abrupt climate change range are devastating droughts and floods,
which could seriously affect both, water supply and agriculture across vast
stretches of the planet. |

The Facts - Electrolysis is the producing of chemical changes by passage
of an electric current through an electrolyte. |

The Facts - The sun is our source of heat, which we need very much.
Science says that if the Earth was just a little closer to the sun or a
little bit further away from the sun we would burn or freeze and life on
Earth would be just as impossible as it is on other planets. |

Storm - Rain is one of the normal aspects of life for man
countries and regions across the world. But what if there were a terrible
overdose of rain? Flooding would be rampant and thousands of lives lost. Or
even worse, what if the supply of rain was cut off? Droughts would kill
people, livestock, and plants. Get the picture? |

Storm - The theory of how the dinosaurs died go along the lines of
no sun being able to warm the Earth. If clouds covered every inch of the sky,
heavy enough to keep out the sun's rays and heat, what do you think would
happen? Enough said. |

The Facts - Fog. Not only the cause of many car accidents and airplane
complications, but a cause of death. Fog is very blinding to the human eye;
making their surroundings unseen. |

The Facts - Any fighter that has taken to skill the art of fighting is a
dangerous foe, even outside the world of comics. Even if one's body is not
buffed and perfectly toned with muscles. Even if it is a female involved with
the friction. Any trained fighter is dangerous. |

Storm - Ororo is a mistress of thieves, queen of lock pickers, and
the empress of stealth. Using her stealth tactics she once defeated Cyclops
in a battle without her mutant abilities. While growing up on the streets of
Cairo, Egypt as an orphan, her only means of staying alive were begging and
stealing. She became a master thief. With the added skill of her mutant
ability, she is now probably even more capable of thieving than Gambit. |

The Facts - The interface between ice and air is not always a simple
boundary, and near the melting point the surface undergoes a surface melting
transition, forming what is sometimes called a quasi-liquid layer. The
thickness of the layer is small at lower temperatures, just a few molecular
layers at -10 C, and becomes thicker at higher temperatures. The layer
thickness grows very rapidly near the melting temperature, until it
encompasses the entire solid at the melting point. |

The Facts - A hurricane is a type of tropical cyclone, which is a generic
term for a low-pressure system that generally forms in the tropics. The
cyclone is accompanied by thunderstorms and, in the Northern Hemisphere, a
counterclockwise circulation of winds near the earth's surface. They start at
75 mph and can reach higher levels! They cause flooding, high winds,
tornados, and much more. The damage they cause has no limits. It can destroy
entire cities, and in small states like Rhode Island, the whole state can
suffer devastation. |

The Facts - Hail can be as small as a pea or as large as a baseball. Hail
can break windows, damage roofs, dent cars and airplanes, and occasionally
injure or kill people. It causes hundreds of millions of dollars of damage to
crops each year. Hail damage is greater when the wind is strong. They fall at
a speed of about 22 miles (35 kilometers) per hour or more. |

The Facts - Tornadoes release lots of energy. A tornado with wind speeds
of 200 mph will release kinetic energy at the rate of 1 billion watts --
about equal to the electricity output of a pair of large nuclear reactors.
But the large thunderstorms that spawn tornadoes are immensely more powerful,
releasing latent heat at the rate of 40 trillion watts -- 40,000 times as
powerful as the twister. |

The Facts - Taken from Channel4.com - Dust Storm's Threats to Life - 1.
Suffocation due to dust inhalation. 2. Extremely low visibility on roads and
in the air, leading to loss of orientation and high likelihood of accidents. |

The Facts – Dry air enters thunderstorms and is cooled by rain, creating cold
air. Because hot air rises, cold air [air that lacks heat] falls. In cases of
downbursts these falling winds blast down with such power that the damage
they cause are sometimes attributed to tornadoes. However, it’s important to note
that downbursts, microbursts, and macrobursts are not tornadoes. These
powerful blasts of airs have been known to flatten buildings and cause
airplanes, weighing 255,000 lbs to crash. Storm – This is especially useful for Storm in an aerial battle.
The interesting thing is that, although downbursts seem to take quite a while
to conjure up, the entire scenario gives Storm plenty of coverage to do it.
If she creates a thunderstorm, her enemy will already be trying to fight off
the lightning and high winds, not to mention having a hard time trying to
pinpoint Storm’s location because of the heavy clouds and rain. In this
scenario she has created the perfect environment where she can stealthily cause
a downburst. Because these bursts can be immense [4 miles in diameter] and
small [under 1 mile in diameter] she could take out her enemy without posing
any danger to herself. If it can take out a Boeing 757 it can definitely take
out her flying opponents. |
